Tax exemption focuses on seniors and the disabled
Pierce County Assessor Treasurer staff recently visited the Key Peninsula Community Services Food Bank/Senior Center to share information about the Senior and Disabled Property Tax Exemption program. This program assists seniors aged 61 and older who qualify based on an income limit of $64,000. Exemptions apply to principal residences and can include mobile homes, even if the land is not owned. Residents can still qualify if temporarily residing in a hospital or nursing facility, provided they document income used for care costs. Only one person in a married couple or co-tenants needs to meet the age or disability criteria.
The program aims to reduce financial stress for local seniors, ensuring they can remain in their homes. Applications must detail all household income, including contributions from co-tenants without ownership. For further assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the Pierce County office at (253) 798-6111.
