Snohomish school meal prices to rise

Snohomish, WALocal News

The Snohomish school board approved a 25-cent increase in meal prices for the 2025-26 school year. Effective September 1, lunch will cost $3. 75 at middle and high schools and $3. 50 at elementary schools, while breakfast prices will rise to $2. 25 and $2, respectively.

The board noted that the increase aims to manage costs without facing a larger jump later. Students eligible for reduced and free lunch will continue to pay nothing. The district has not raised meal prices in three years, making this adjustment necessary. The board was informed that the food service contractor, Chartwells, will charge the district $4. 61 per meal in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

State and federal programs will help cover these costs, ensuring affordability for families. This decision reflects the district's efforts to balance budgetary constraints while providing essential services to students.
