Everett advances stadium plan with new 4.8M funds committal

The Everett City Council approved a preliminary funding commitment of $4. 8 million for a new $82 million AquaSox stadium, designed to serve as an Outdoor Event Center. The facility aims to host various events, including soccer matches and concerts, with the AquaSox and the United Soccer League pledging 106 event dates. Council member Judy Tuohy raised concerns about the lack of full funding and financial transparency, questioning the potential burden on taxpayers. The city forecasts a total contribution of $8 million, supplemented by $7.

4 million from the state and $5 million from Snohomish County. Public Facilities Group has been selected to oversee the construction, which will include a $40 million bond issue. The center will seat 3,500 for baseball and 5,000 for soccer events. While council president Don Schwab emphasized risk reduction, local business owners expressed skepticism about the project’s viability. The city earmarked $2 million for business relocation assistance as it prepares to acquire properties for the stadium.
