Monroe looking for opinions about future community space downtown

Snohomish, WALocal News

Monroe is set to host an open house on June 18 to gather community input on four proposed designs for the Festival Lot project at the former Union Bank site. Each option includes various enhancements to the property, such as a visitor center, retail space, and dedicated parking. The project responds to a long-standing community desire for a venue for gatherings and events, dating back to the 1970s. Monroe's 2008 Downtown Master Plan aimed to create a flexible space that could host cultural events and community celebrations. The city has set aside $475,000 in its 2025-26 budget for the project.

Economic development coordinator Patrick Doherty noted that residents prioritize parking in their feedback. The survey for public input will remain open until the end of June, with results to be presented to the City Council in summer 2025. If implemented, the project is expected to attract more visitors to downtown Monroe.
