Tornadoes possible in Washington on Wednesday

Olympia, WALocal News

The Washington state emergency center is on high alert for potential tornadoes as severe storms are forecasted for Wednesday. Officials stress the importance of preparedness, noting that tornadoes can develop quickly in the Pacific Northwest. Residents are advised to charge their phones and secure outdoor items to minimize hazards. Historical tornado occurrences, such as the EF2 tornado in Port Orchard in 2018, serve as a reminder of the region's vulnerability despite its rarity. Public information officer Steven Friederich highlights that there is a 2% to 4% chance of a tornado during the storms, urging residents to recognize warning signs like roaring winds and baseball-sized hail.

He also suggests having emergency supplies ready and reaching out to neighbors for mutual support during potential disasters. Preparing for power outages and ensuring that electric vehicles are charged are key steps residents should take. Overall, the message is clear: vigilance and readiness are crucial in facing the unpredictable nature of severe weather in Washington.
