Nearly 35,000 SNAP clients in Thurston County may experience reduced benefits, leading the city to promote its assistance hub for learning about aid options. Marika Thomas, acting utility billing supervisor, reports a surge in inquiries from furloughed federal employees regarding payment arrangements and deferrals. The Lacey Utility Discount Program can reduce utility bills by 50% for qualifying residents, while the Lacey Utility Assistance Fund provides up to $75 twice a year. For meal support, the city collaborates with the Thurston County Food Bank and Lacey Veterans Services Hub.

Donations can be made online when paying utility bills, enhancing community support. John Ficker, executive director of the Thurston County Food Bank, mentions record attendance, with 20% of visitors being first-timers. The food bank offers a variety of items and encourages contributions of shelf-stable and nutritious foods.
