WDFW Approves Nine Days of Coastal Razor Clam Digs Beginning March 26 - ThurstonTalk

Olympia, WALocal News

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has officially approved nine days of coastal razor clam digs, starting March 26, with detailed schedules provided for both evening and morning low tides. The evening digs will take place from March 26-28, while morning digs are set for March 29-April 3, with specific low tide times for each date. Bryce Blumenthal, WDFW’s recreational razor clam manager, noted the upcoming tide series will feature a mix of afternoon and morning digs, attracting larger crowds. To ensure safety and protect wildlife, WDFW stresses the importance of adhering to speed limits and avoiding nesting areas of snowy plovers. Participants are reminded to keep beaches clean by not leaving food or trash, which can attract predators.

Most successful digging occurs one to two hours before the scheduled low tide, making timing crucial for diggers. WDFW urges all beachgoers to check the status of their chosen beaches before heading out, as not all locations may be open for digging. This event not only highlights a beloved local tradition but also emphasizes the importance of responsible environmental stewardship.
