North Thurston High School's girls basketball team made an impressive mark by clinching third place at the state tournament, demonstrating their prowess as the #2 seed. Their journey included a decisive 77-49 victory over the defending champions, Garfield, and a solid win against Bellevue in the quarterfinals. Although they faced a narrow 40-42 loss to #6 Lakeside in the semifinals, head coach Jackie Meyer highlighted the team's commitment and spirit throughout the tournament. The addition of players like Shayla and Sierra Cordis and Patricia Egrubay invigorated a core group that included talented seniors Soraya Ogaldez and Grace Lee. Their aggressive backcourt defense played a critical role in overwhelming opponents, contributing to a league and district title along with a remarkable 27-game winning streak.
