A significant collaborative effort led by the Thurston Regional Housing Council has resulted in the funding for a new permanent supportive housing facility in Olympia, aimed at tackling homelessness in the region. The project, with a total budget of $28. 8 million, will include 70 units designed for singles and couples, as well as an on-site property manager's unit. Key funding sources include the Washington State Low Income Housing Tax Credit Equity, the Washington State Department of Commerce Housing Trust Fund, and contributions from local governments such as Thurston County and the City of Lacey. Construction is expected to begin in September 2025, with a projected completion timeline of 15 months. The initiative highlights a commitment to providing supportive services and addressing the root causes of homelessness with dignity and compassion. RHC Chair Emily Clouse noted the project's role in building a community where no one is left behind. This collaborative approach serves as a model for addressing housing challenges through innovative funding and regional cooperation.
