The Evergreen State College Tacoma Hosts Founders Day Celebration on March 4

Olympia, WALocal News

The Evergreen State College Tacoma is set to celebrate its annual Founder’s Day on March 4, from 1-4 p. m. at 1210 6th Avenue, in memory of founder Dr. Maxine Mimms. This year’s event will include art, poetry, and speeches from graduating seniors, creating a vibrant atmosphere of community engagement.

The program will be highlighted by a keynote address from faculty emeritus Dr. Joye Hardiman, followed by remarks from Dr. Dexter Gordon, the Executive Vice President for Evergreen. This celebration is especially significant as it marks the first since Dr. Mimms' passing in October 2024, a loss that resonates deeply within the college community.

Dr. Mimms was pivotal in providing a college education for working adults, showcasing her dedication to making higher education accessible. The event reflects not only a tribute to her legacy but also the ongoing commitment of Evergreen Tacoma to foster diversity and innovation in its educational programs. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with fellow alumni and celebrate the transformative impact of education on their lives.
