Calling Students, Families, and Teachers to the Thurston-Mason County Developmental Disabilities Resource Fair

Olympia, WALocal News

Scheduled for March 11, 2025, the Thurston – Mason County Developmental Disabilities Resource and Transition Fair aims to support the over 8 million Americans living with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). This free event welcomes students, families, educators, and community members, coinciding with Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to promote inclusion and highlight existing barriers. Marsha Longmeier, a key organizer, emphasizes that while the fair is tailored for the I/DD community, anyone seeking resources is encouraged to attend. Attendees will have access to a variety of services, including assistance with the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) application process and information on vocational rehabilitation, housing, and advocacy. The fair will also feature a Sensory Tool House, providing a peaceful space for individuals who may experience sensory overload in busy environments.

Additionally, teachers can register for continuing education credit (clock hours) to enhance their professional development. This event not only serves as a resource hub but also raises critical awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Ultimately, it fosters a sense of community and support for those navigating the complexities of I/DD.
