Olympia City Council Appoints Kelly Green to Fill Parshleys Seat

Kelly Green has been appointed to the Olympia City Council, filling the vacancy left by former council member Lisa Parshley, who was elected to the State House of Representatives. Green, who has been with South Puget Sound Community College since 2012, took her oath of office on January 14, 2025, and thanked her supporters during the council meeting. Her three main priorities include resolving budget deficits, enhancing affordable housing, and completing the city's Comprehensive Plan update. With 24 applicants in total, Green emerged as one of eight finalists, demonstrating her qualifications and deep understanding of local issues. Mayor Pro Tem Yến Huỳnh noted that Green’s application reflected thorough research and preparation for the role.

Green emphasized the importance of collaboration and regional partnerships in addressing Olympia's challenges. Additionally, Council member Dani Madrone highlighted Green's readiness to engage immediately with the council's ongoing projects. The council is optimistic about Green's contributions, given her extensive experience and dedication to the community.
