Kelly Green has been selected as the new city council member for Olympia, following Lisa Parshley's transition to the State House of Representatives. Taking her oath of office on January 14, 2025, Green expressed deep gratitude to her supporters during the council meeting. As the Vice President for Advancement at South Puget Sound Community College, she brings extensive experience in community engagement and budget management. Green stated her primary focus will be on addressing the city's budget deficits, enhancing affordable housing efforts, and completing the Comprehensive Plan update. The selection process was highly competitive, with 24 applicants that resulted in seven finalists.

Mayor Pro Tem Yến Huỳnh acknowledged Green's preparedness and understanding of the city's major plans, while Council member Dani Madrone noted her readiness to begin work immediately. Green emphasized the importance of collaboration and regional efforts to tackle local issues effectively. Mayor Dontae Payne welcomed her commitment to the community and expressed eagerness to see her contributions to the council.
