Lock Down Drills to Impact Thurston County Facilities

Olympia, WALocal News

Thurston County will hold emergency preparedness 'lock down' drills at its courthouse from June 3 to June 7, resulting in brief closures of various facilities. The drills, expected to last under 30 minutes, will require county employees to practice securing the buildings to ensure safety in emergencies. Commission Chair John Hutchings stressed the critical nature of these drills, emphasizing that practice is essential for effective responses during actual emergencies. County Manager Ramiro Chavez explained that courthouse visitors will be informed about the drills and will have the option to wait in designated gathering areas or in their vehicles. The county has arranged for staff to be present both inside and outside the facilities to assist the public during the drills.

This initiative reflects the county's dedication to enhancing safety protocols and emergency preparedness for both employees and visitors. The county expresses gratitude for the public's understanding and patience during the exercise, as these drills serve as a vital component of the county's overall emergency management strategy.
