Arrest Made in 1992 Murder of Amy Hooper in Columbus, Ohio

Olympia, WALocal News

The long-unsolved murder of Amy Hooper, a 19-year-old mall worker from Columbus, Ohio, has seen a breakthrough with the arrest of Bruce Edward Daniels, now 57, in Tumwater, Washington. Hooper was found dead in her apartment on March 9, 1992, with evidence indicating she was bludgeoned and stabbed, and her hands were loosely bound. Investigators believe the lack of forced entry suggests that Hooper knew her assailant. After years of investigation, new DNA evidence linked Daniels to the crime, leading to his identification as a person of interest earlier this year. Daniels was arrested on December 5 and is currently held in Thurston County jail, with an extradition hearing scheduled for January.

This case highlights the challenges of solving cold cases and the advancements in forensic science that can bring closure to families affected by violent crime.
