Police responded to the scene around 4:25 a. m. at an apartment on Lilly Road Northeast. During the altercation, the couple's seven-year-old daughter attempted to intervene but was forcibly moved aside by her father.

The mother and daughter managed to escape to a bedroom with the assistance of a 59-year-old roommate. After the suspect locked himself inside the apartment and refused to cooperate, Thurston County SWAT teams spent about two hours negotiating for his surrender before they were forced to break down the door. He was arrested on multiple charges, including simple assault and unlawful imprisonment. This incident highlights the pervasive issue of domestic violence, particularly affecting families with children, and emphasizes the need for community support systems for victims.
