Tumwater man arrested in 1992 Ohio cold case murder

Olympia, WALocal News

In a significant breakthrough in a cold case that has remained unsolved for over three decades, Bruce Edward Daniels, a 57-year-old man from Tumwater, Washington, has been arrested for the murder of Amy Hooper, a 19-year-old mall worker found dead in her Columbus, Ohio apartment in 1992. Hooper's body was discovered in a disturbing condition, with her hands loosely bound and evidence of being bludgeoned and stabbed. Investigators had long suspected that she was acquainted with her attacker due to the absence of forced entry. Recent DNA evidence collected from Daniels' trash matched samples taken from Hooper's body, leading to his arrest on December 5. Daniels is currently jailed in Thurston County, Washington, and is awaiting extradition to Ohio for trial.

This case illustrates the power of modern forensic science to bring closure to long-standing investigations and offers hope to families seeking justice.
