Tumwater man arrested in 1992 Ohio cold case murder

Olympia, WALocal News

In a significant breakthrough in a cold case, Bruce Edward Daniels, a 57-year-old man living in Tumwater, Washington, has been arrested for the brutal murder of 19-year-old Amy Hooper in 1992. Hooper, who worked at Bermans Leather in Columbus, Ohio, was found dead in her apartment, her body showing signs of having been bludgeoned and stabbed. The investigation revealed that she was likely acquainted with her attacker, as there were no signs of forced entry into her home. After going cold for over three decades, advancements in DNA technology led to Daniels being identified as a suspect after DNA linked him to evidence collected at the scene. This development follows Daniels being classified as a person of interest earlier this year, with DNA retrieved from his trash in Washington matching samples found on Hooper's body.

Hooper's family discovered her lifeless body after she failed to show up for her shift on March 9, 1992. Daniels was arrested on December 5 and is currently held in Thurston County jail, with an extradition hearing scheduled for January. The authorities' persistence in this case reflects their commitment to seeking justice, even after so many years.
