U. S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland has been elected as the secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus, comprised of 62 members. This election showcases the trust and support she has earned from her colleagues, highlighting her influence within the caucus.

A former mayor of Tacoma, Strickland represents Washington's 10th Congressional District, which spans from Tacoma to Olympia. In a news release on Dec. 4, she expressed gratitude and a commitment to leveraging their collective power to achieve goals in the 119th Congress. In her new role, she will collaborate with notable Democratic representatives, including incoming Chair Yvette Clarke and First Vice Chair Troy Carter. Strickland's election is significant as it marks the first time a representative from Washington state and the Pacific Northwest has held a position on the caucus' executive board, emphasizing her personal achievements and the importance of regional representation in national politics.
