Officer stabbed in hand while making arrest, Shelton police say | The Olympian

On December 5, 2024, a Shelton police officer was stabbed in the hand while attempting to detain a male suspect wanted by the Washington state Department of Corrections. The incident occurred around 11:30 a. m. when the officer was called to assist a DOC officer who had spotted the suspect on Olympic Highway North. During a foot chase, the officer was injured while trying to take the suspect into custody.

Fortunately, other law enforcement officers quickly intervened, leading to the suspect's arrest without further violence. The injured officer received immediate medical attention and was later transported to Mason General Hospital, where he is expected to recover fully. The suspect has been booked into Mason County Jail on charges including first-degree assault and resisting arrest. This incident underscores the risks that law enforcement officers face daily and highlights the importance of community support for police departments.
