I-5 lanes near DuPont will close for railroad bridge check

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has issued a notice about upcoming overnight lane closures on I-5, affecting early-morning commuters. Starting at 10 p. m. on December 10, 2024, the two right lanes of southbound I-5 will be closed until 5:30 a. m.

on December 11, followed by closures of the left lanes as the inspection progresses. Northbound I-5 will experience similar closures from 8:30 p. m. on December 11 to 4:30 a. m.

on December 12, starting with the left lanes. The exit ramp to Mounts Road will also be shut down during this period, complicating travel for many. Commuters are advised to plan alternate routes and expect delays, as significant congestion is anticipated near the inspection zone. This maintenance is vital for ensuring the safety of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad bridge that crosses above the freeway, helping to prevent future issues and maintain smooth transit for all drivers.
