Officer stabbed in hand while making arrest, Shelton police say

On December 5, 2024, a Shelton police officer was stabbed in the hand while attempting to arrest a wanted suspect. The incident took place around 11:30 a. m. when police were dispatched to assist a Department of Corrections officer who had identified the suspect walking in the area. After locating the suspect near Olympic Highway North and D Street, police pursued him on foot.

During the arrest attempt, the officer was stabbed in the hand, but with the support of additional law enforcement officers, the suspect was apprehended without further violence. The officer received immediate medical attention at the scene and was later transported to Mason General Hospital, where he is projected to recover fully. The suspect faces serious charges, including first-degree assault, resisting arrest, and obstruction of law enforcement. This event underscores the dangers that police officers encounter daily while enforcing the law and ensuring public safety, serving as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in managing violent offenders within the community.
