RatsPacNW Hosts Rat Shows in Thurston County

Olympia, WALocal News

RatsPacNW has been hosting rat shows in Thurston County since 2001, highlighting the unique characteristics of pet rats and fostering a community of rat enthusiasts. The club was founded by LeAnn Boardman, Beth Boardman, and Ashleen Jackman to promote visibility and acceptance of pet rats, which are often overlooked compared to other pets. At its inaugural show, over a thousand attendees participated, marking it as one of the largest rat shows in the U. S. After a hiatus due to COVID-19, the club resumed its events in 2024, currently averaging around 300 attendees per show.

Members hail from various states, with a focus on the I-5 corridor for accessibility. The events held at the Thurston County Fairgrounds include both competitive judging based on established standards and a fun pet show with categories like Best Costume. This initiative not only celebrates the pet rat community but also aims to attract more members to join and participate in future events. With an ongoing commitment to growth, RatsPacNW continues to be a hub for rat fanciers in the region.
