People in Public Service Steve Boone Has Supported the Boys Girls Clubs of Thurston County Since Its Inception

Steve Boone was pivotal in founding the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County, which opened in 2001 with 20 children. Shellica Trevino, the CEO of BGCTC, emphasizes Boone's importance, stating, "Without Steve, it would not have started. " The organization has grown significantly, now serving nearly 1,900 youth annually across nine clubs in the region. Boone’s family has also played a vital role; they established the Boone Family Foundation to support BGCTC's initiatives. Early efforts included fundraising and securing locations through partnerships with the Tumwater School District.

The club offers programs designed to inspire leadership, academic enrichment, and healthy lifestyles. Mike McKinnen Sr. , a lifelong friend of Boone, recalls how Boone encouraged him to join the board, highlighting his ability to inspire others to get involved. Boone's legacy of community service continues to impact the youth of Thurston County.
