Intercity Transit Express Routes Expands Bus Service to Thurston County and Beyond

Olympia, WALocal News

Intercity Transit will launch Routes 600 and 610 on September 7, 2025, replacing Route 620 to enhance commuter service between Thurston and Pierce counties. Route 600, known as the Lakewood Commuter, prioritizes shorter travel times with limited stops, while Route 610, the Lacey Connector, operates daily to improve inter-county accessibility. These adjustments are part of a broader system redesign aimed at meeting state transportation priorities and reducing traffic congestion. Rob LaFontaine, the planning deputy director, emphasized that state funding is critical for sustaining these commuter services through June 2029. The new routes will provide strategic connections, including access to northbound Sounder trains and Pierce Transit Route 206 for military families.

This redesign aims to attract more riders by offering a balance between efficiency and service coverage. The Hawks Prairie Park and Ride and Berkeley Street will serve as significant new stops. These enhancements not only benefit daily commuters but also support residents in accessing essential services and connections.
