Injured climber rescued at Snow Creek Wall in Leavenworth

A climber fell and broke his ankle while navigating the "Outer Space" route at Snow Creek Wall in Leavenworth on May 30. The Chelan County Sheriff's Office reported the accident occurred shortly after 5:00 p. m. Chelan County Mountain Rescue was activated and utilized a helicopter to reach the climber, stabilize his condition, and lower him 800 feet to a more accessible area for extraction. A U.

S. Army helicopter assisted in hoisting the injured climber and transporting him to Pangborn Airport in East Wenatchee. After landing, Ballard Ambulance took the climber to a hospital for further treatment. The entire rescue operation spanned approximately nine hours and showcased the effective collaboration between multiple agencies, including Chelan County Emergency Management and the Mountain Rescue Team. The “Outer Space” route, known for its popularity and traditional climbing style, remains a favored spot for climbers in the region.

This incident underscores the importance of having robust search and rescue capabilities in outdoor recreational areas.
