Chelan County Sheriffs Office warns public of scam calls using Deputies names

Leavenworth, WALocal News

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a rise in fraudulent phone calls where scammers impersonate local deputies. The callers falsely claim that victims have missed court dates or that they have outstanding warrants, demanding payments to resolve these fabricated issues. The Sheriff’s Office explicitly states that deputies will never ask for money over the phone regarding warrants or court dates. Names like Deputies Key, McCue, Mathena, and Moody are currently being used by these criminals. Residents should immediately hang up if they receive such calls and refrain from sharing any personal or financial information.

This type of scam follows a common pattern where scammers exploit fear and urgency to extort money. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that legitimate communications regarding legal matters will not occur via unsolicited calls. Public awareness and caution are essential in combating these fraudulent activities.
