Leavenworth Lions help to alleviate hunger with third annual food drive

On May 30, the Leavenworth Lions Club will host its third annual food drive at Dan’s Food Market to combat rising hunger in the community. The event will take place from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m.

, collecting food and monetary donations for Upper Valley MEND’s Community Cupboard. This local food pantry has experienced record usage, assisting nearly 3,000 individual shoppers in 2025, up from just over 1,800 at the same time last year. Shoppers can stop by the Lions Club table for a list of the most needed items before making their grocery purchases. Alleviating hunger aligns with the Lions Club’s mission of enhancing food security in the region. Last year's drive resulted in the collection of 844.

5 pounds of food and $209 in cash donations. The growing demand for assistance underscores the critical role of community support in addressing food insecurity. The Lions Club's efforts reflect a broader commitment to community welfare and service.
