Student artists join professionals at Village Art in the Park

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Cascade School District students will showcase and sell their artwork at the Village Art in the Park event on May 31 and June 1. This initiative, organized in partnership with local art teachers and the nonprofit Village Art in the Park, provides students with practical experience in art creation, marketing, and sales. Board President Laura Hansen stated that the project aims to expose students to potential careers in art. Proceeds from the event will support local students through scholarships and funding for art supplies. Icicle River Middle School art teacher Lore Smart noted the importance of students gaining an appreciation for handmade items and overcoming the vulnerability of selling their creations.

The project began with Cascade High School students but has expanded to include middle school participants, who will focus on clay art. This exposure allows students to interact with local artists and develop entrepreneurial skills. The event attracts visitors from around the world, showcasing student art to a diverse audience.
