Chelan PUD to begin annual transmission line inspections by helicopter

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Chelan County Public Utility District will commence its annual helicopter inspection of high-voltage transmission lines next week, starting Monday if weather conditions allow. The inspection route spans about 300 miles, covering lines from Cashmere to Malaga and north to the Chelan-Manson area. A grey and white Long Ranger helicopter, tail number 902EH, will conduct the visual inspections, which play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the power delivery system. Following this initial round of inspections, additional flights will occur in the coming weeks on lines extending from Cashmere to Stevens Pass, timed for when remaining snow has melted. Residents may notice the helicopter flying low and slowly over the lines during inspections.

These operations are part of routine maintenance practices that help ensure the reliability of electrical service in the region. Chelan PUD emphasizes the importance of these inspections for ongoing service quality and safety. The annual inspections reflect the utility's commitment to maintaining a robust power infrastructure.
