Cascade School District named Washington Green Ribbon School District

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Cascade School District (CSD) achieved the title of Green Ribbon School District for its commitment to environmental sustainability and education. The Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction recognized CSD as the only district selected for this honor in 2025, and it will be forwarded to the U. S. Department of Education for national recognition. Superintendent Tracey Edou noted that the district's focus on outdoor education began in 2019, driven by the high school Sustainability Club's initiatives.

CSD has prioritized outdoor learning through improvements to local trails and the establishment of outdoor classrooms in partnership with local organizations. The district also minimized its environmental footprint by enrolling in a composting program and eliminating sporks from its operations. During the celebration, Greg Barker from the Washington School Principals' Education Foundation presented a $10,000 grant to support ongoing outdoor education efforts. This recognition highlights the significant impact CSD has made in promoting environmental education and community involvement. The district's initiatives serve as a model for other educational institutions in Washington.
