Press Release High Fire Travel and Activity Restrictions

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Sheriff Brian Burnett announced a "High Fire Hazard" status for unincorporated Chelan County on July 11, 2016, leading to stringent travel and activity restrictions. This decision, made by the Board of Chelan County Commissioners based on Fire Advisory Board recommendations, seeks to reduce fire risks associated with various activities. Travel restrictions prohibit the operation of motor vehicles off-road and limit access to county roads for bona fide residents, landowners, and authorized business purposes. Outdoor activities face severe limitations, including a complete ban on fireworks and outdoor fires unless a permit is obtained from fire protection agencies. Certain open flame devices are allowed, such as pressurized gas camp stoves and contained fires within residences.

The restrictions aim to safeguard public safety and property in high-risk fire areas. Local residents are urged to reach out to their fire protection district for further clarification on the restrictions. By implementing these measures, the county aims to mitigate potential fire hazards during peak seasons.
