Climate Resiliency Strategy report a county-wide, community effort

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Chelan County has unveiled a draft Climate Resiliency Strategy report, culminating from a comprehensive effort that engaged over 100 community members. This strategy addresses pressing climate-related issues, including wildfire management, snowpack variability, and water supply challenges. Residents are invited to participate in public meetings on December 2 and 3 to discuss the report and provide feedback on its strategies. The initiative aims to foster better communication and coordination among local stakeholders while facilitating projects that yield multiple community benefits. Mike Kaputa, the director of the Chelan County Natural Resource Department, emphasizes that although climate change poses significant challenges, proactive choices can mitigate its worst effects.

The report encourages community engagement to prepare for future changes. A roundtable meeting is also scheduled for early 2021 to further explore these strategies. To view the full climate report, residents can visit the Chelan County Natural Resource website.
