County seeks public input to help determine runoff relief measures in Ski Hill Basin area

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Chelan County is actively seeking public input through a survey to address the persistent water runoff issues in the Ski Hill Basin area of Leavenworth. The analysis, funded by the Chelan County Flood Control Zone District (FCZD), began in 2019 and is now at a critical juncture where community insights are vital. Six alternatives have been proposed to alleviate flooding, which has historically affected local homeowners, particularly during rapid snowmelt in late winter and early spring. The FCZD is utilizing a GIS StoryMap to illustrate the runoff problems and proposed solutions, making it accessible for public evaluation. Commissioner Bob Bugert has highlighted the necessity of community involvement, especially from those living and working in the Ski Hill Basin.

This outreach effort aligns with recommendations from the 2017 Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management Plan, which prioritized the basin for mitigation strategies. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback before the survey closes on February 26. Engaging the community in this process aims to ensure that the action plan effectively addresses the flooding concerns impacting both public and private properties.
