Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M. D. (WA-08), has successfully secured $941,340 in funding for ten local projects in the 8th District, including Leavenworth, through the bipartisan Community Funding Program. The funding will support various initiatives aimed at bettering the community, such as affordable housing through a land trust, playground construction, and the enhancement of sports fields. Specifically, $348,000 will finance a three-home affordable housing pilot project in partnership with Upper Valley MEND’s SHARE Community Land Trust.

Furthermore, $313,200 is allocated for upgrades to the community pool, while $104,000 each is designated for an ADA-compliant playground and sports field improvements. Additionally, $71,340 will support a carpentry apprenticeship program through YouthBuild. Although the funds will not fully finance each project, they represent a critical step forward in their implementation. This funding underscores the significance of cooperation among local and federal entities in addressing community needs.
