THE CITY OF LEAVENWORTH MOVES FORWARD WITH THE ACQUISITION OF THE FORMER CASCADE QUICK LUBE CAR WASH PROPERTY FOR 1.9 MILLION

Leavenworth, WALocal News

The City of Leavenworth is moving forward with the acquisition of the former Cascade Quick Lube & Car Wash property for $1. 9 million, as approved by the City Council. This strategic purchase aims to expand the public works campus and increase the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant to meet future demands. The City had previously shown interest in the property back in 2018 but opted against the acquisition due to contamination concerns related to the adjacent Glacier Park cleanup site. However, a Toxics Cleanup Integrated Planning Grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology provided $200,000 for comprehensive environmental assessments.

These assessments, including a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment, confirmed that the property is free from contamination. City Administrator Matthew Selby remarked on the significance of the grant, stating it played a crucial role in facilitating the acquisition. The City is poised to advance its planning efforts for the property, which is ideally located next to existing public works facilities. This acquisition underscores the City’s commitment to infrastructure development and environmental safety.
