Chelan County seeks public input on updated Hazard Mitigation Plan

Leavenworth, WALocal News

The Chelan County planning team is inviting residents to engage in the update of its Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) through various feedback mechanisms. The HMP is designed to identify the county's vulnerabilities to natural hazards and present strategies for risk reduction. Community members can attend open houses on October 3, 2024, at Wenatchee City Hall and Leavenworth City Hall, where the same information will be shared in both sessions. Between October 3 and October 17, residents can provide comments on the draft plan, which will be accessible online. An interactive project storymap and a hazard mapper tool will offer detailed insights into local risks.

Moreover, the public is encouraged to contribute to updates on the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), with public comments expected in January 2025. Proactive measures outlined in the HMP can significantly enhance community resilience, protecting lives and property. This initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in disaster preparedness and sustainability efforts.
