City of Leavenworth Partners with NCW Libraries to Provide Cooling Centers

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Amidst an extreme heat wave, the City of Leavenworth has taken decisive action by partnering with NCW Libraries to establish cooling centers for residents. Forecasts predict temperatures exceeding 110°F for three consecutive days, prompting the need for accessible relief options. City Hall and the NCW Libraries in both Leavenworth and Peshastin will remain open to the public, operating at full capacity thanks to an Emergency Declaration. This allows community members to find refuge from the sweltering heat in a safe environment. As part of the initiative, masks will be required for all visitors, and library time limits have been extended indefinitely.

The City Hall's operating hours are Monday through Wednesday, while Peshastin Library offers adjusted hours to accommodate visitors. This collaboration illustrates the city's proactive approach to safeguarding public health amidst climate challenges. By providing essential cooling resources, Leavenworth aims to ensure the well-being of its residents during this unprecedented weather event.
