Starting September 16, 2024, the City of Leavenworth will enhance public safety by installing permanent bollards on Front Street, restricting vehicle access to the pedestrian plaza after 11:00 a. m. This decision follows the City Council's 2022 move to close a section of Front Street indefinitely, aiming to reduce conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians in the downtown area. The new bollards will replace the existing orange barricades, significantly improving the aesthetic and safety of the pedestrian plaza. Delivery vehicles will be allowed to access loading zones on 8th Street, 9th Street, and Highway 2 from 6:00 a.

m. to 11:00 a. m. , ensuring that local businesses remain operational during peak pedestrian hours. These changes will be formally incorporated into the Leavenworth Municipal Code, with fines imposed on vehicles that violate the new regulations.
