Emergency-route traffic controls to take effect during Village of Lights

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Leavenworth will implement parking restrictions and road closures beginning Nov. 28 to enhance public safety for the Village of Lights festival, which continues through the first weekend of January. Local agencies, including the Chelan County Fire District and the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, collaborated to ensure clear emergency vehicle routes amid expected traffic increases. Prohibited parking will affect various streets, including Pine Street and Ski Hill Drive, especially on Black Friday and Saturdays. The closure of 9th Street aims to maintain access to Cascade Medical, while left turns from 14th Street onto US-2 will be restricted.

Enforcement of these restrictions will be strict, with violators subject to towing and fines. These measures were first implemented last year, with additional control measures added this year. Residents can direct questions about the restrictions to city officials via email or phone. The festival's popularity necessitates these changes to ensure safety and efficient emergency response.
