Chelan County Fire District 3 launches Community Fire Brigade

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Chelan County Fire District 3 (CCFD3) launches a Community Fire Brigade to enhance its emergency response capabilities. The brigade aims to recruit volunteers for various roles, including reserve firefighters, family support, and meal preparation during large-scale emergencies. CCFD3 responds to more than 700 emergencies annually, safeguarding nearly 30 square miles and over two billion dollars in assets. The area faces significant challenges, including being the state’s top wildfire risk region and accommodating over three million visitors each year. The fire district has been awarded a grant from Gesa Credit Union, but additional funds are needed to purchase personal protective equipment.

Reserve firefighters will be credentialed as Emergency Service Workers through a state program, ideally comprising professional firefighters from the area. The open house on November 5 will provide information about the program and opportunities for community involvement. Increased volunteer support is essential to prevent overwhelming the existing resources during major incidents.
