Plain residents contest results of Lake Wenatchee Fire bond passage

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Four residents from Plain have filed a lawsuit contesting the recent approval of a $15 million bond proposal for Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue, which narrowly passed in the August 5 election. The bond aims to support upgrades to existing fire stations and the construction of new facilities, including an emergency operations center. The plaintiffs allege that LWFR violated election procedures by failing to include an opposition statement in the voters’ pamphlet, which they believe could have swayed voters. They also claim that LWFR did not properly notify residents of a special meeting where the bond measure was approved. A Chelan County Superior Court judge denied LWFR's motion to dismiss the lawsuit, citing potential violations of election laws.

The fire district argues it complied with all legal requirements and that the election process was transparent. A ruling is expected on October 30 regarding the merits of the case. The outcome could have significant implications for future bond measures and election procedures in the region.
