Plain Pantry upgrades to new space, providing improved access and service to community

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Plain Pantry has successfully moved to a new location in the former parsonage of Plain Community Church, enhancing access for clients in the Plain and Lake Wenatchee area. The new building consolidates food, clothing, and household goods under one roof, which were previously spread across multiple locations. Directors Mark and Caren Karnofski emphasized the convenience this change brings, along with a backup generator to ensure refrigeration during power outages. The pantry operated from a mobile home for 16 years, facing numerous challenges, including pest issues and leaks in the old structure. The move was executed over a weekend with the help of volunteers, allowing uninterrupted service to the community.

Plain Pantry collaborates with local partners to provide essential grocery items and also offers financial assistance for rent and utilities. It serves as a drop-off point for community composting, further supporting local sustainability efforts. The pantry is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, providing critical resources to those in need.
