GladSong Choir to perform benefit concert for Leavenworths Feed the Kids program

Leavenworth, WALocal News

GladSong Choir will host a benefit concert on October 12 at 3 p. m. at the Snowy Owl Theater in Leavenworth to support the Cascade School District's Feed the Kids program. Admission is free, with donations collected to fund the program, which provides weekly bags of food to students and their families. Strode Weaver, a volunteer with the program, highlights its crucial role in ensuring students receive nutritious meals over the weekends, which is vital for their academic success.

The program currently packs 55 bags each week, but this number is anticipated to grow as more students sign up during the school year. GladSong Choir, formed in 2021, comprises approximately 40 members who perform a variety of musical genres and engage the audience in their performances. Each food bag costs around $12 to assemble due to rising inflation, and Weaver assures that all donations directly contribute to purchasing food. The program has seen an increase in demand, finishing the last school year feeding 73 students weekly. The choir encourages community members to volunteer for packing and delivering food bags, emphasizing the need for community support.
