WSDOT Planning Slope Stabilization Work Near Leavenworth and Stevens Pass

Leavenworth, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation will begin a slope stabilization project this month on US 2, impacting traffic near Leavenworth and Stevens Pass. This initiative addresses four slopes known for rockfall incidents, aiming to enhance safety for motorists in the area. Throughout the project, drivers can expect flagger-controlled traffic and potential 20-minute stops during scaling operations. Near Leavenworth, traffic control will involve single-lane closures, while the Stevens Pass section will see right-lane closures on a four-lane road. A full closure is anticipated for three days in mid-August, with specific dates yet to be determined; vehicles will detour via Chumstick Highway, while freight traffic will use Blewett Pass.

This project is funded through a Phase 3 Funding Program and is estimated to cost $2. 3 million. Local officials emphasize the need for these repairs to ensure public safety along the corridor. Travelers are advised to plan for delays and adjust their routes accordingly.
