Misawa Students Arrive for Wenatchee Summer Program

Fifteen students and two chaperones from Misawa, Japan, are attending Wenatchee Valley College for a cultural and English immersion program until August 7. The students will participate in classes including English as a Second Language, geology, and art, while also engaging in field trips to local attractions such as the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center and Pybus Market. Dean Ellia Sablan-Zebedy highlighted the significance of these programs for fostering cultural exchange between Wenatchee and Misawa. Participants will also experience local events, including an AppleSox baseball game and a play, "The Sound of Music," in Leavenworth. Before their departure, the students will tour the University of Washington and visit major Seattle landmarks like Pike Place Market.

This initiative underscores a long-standing sister city relationship, enhancing mutual understanding and cultural appreciation. The program not only benefits the visiting students but also enriches the local community by promoting intercultural dialogue. Wenatchee Valley College has hosted this program for many years, demonstrating a commitment to international education.
