Chelan, Dryden Transfer Stations Raising Yard Waste Rates

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Starting September 1, the Dryden Transfer Station will charge $115 per ton for yard waste, a significant rise from $85, and a minimum fee of $30 will apply for loads under 480 pounds. Similarly, the Chelan Transfer Station will increase its fees to $20 per cubic yard, up from $15, with a minimum charge of $15. Chelan County Public Works stated that the rate hikes are necessary due to a new vendor grinding the yard waste material. The Dryden Transfer Station will not accept yard waste from the Apple Maggot Quarantine area, which encompasses Lake Wenatchee, Plain, and Leavenworth, to safeguard local tree fruit production. This quarantine rule aims to prevent the spread of pests that could harm agricultural yields.

Residents are encouraged to plan for these increased disposal costs as they manage yard waste. These changes reflect ongoing efforts to maintain effective waste management practices in Chelan County. The adjustments may also prompt residents to seek alternative waste disposal options.
