CCSO warns of phone scam impersonating officials

Leavenworth, WALocal News

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office alerted residents to a phone scam where impersonators pose as law enforcement. Several citizens reported receiving calls from individuals claiming to be Chief Ryan Moody, stating they failed to appear for jury duty, resulting in an arrest warrant. Scammers pressure victims to make immediate payments, often via Bitcoin machines, exploiting their fear of legal consequences. Sheriff Mike Morrison reassured the public that law enforcement will never demand payment or sensitive personal information over the phone. Residents are advised to hang up immediately and contact the Sheriff’s Office at 509-667-6851 to verify the legitimacy of such claims.

This scam highlights the importance of public awareness regarding fraudulent activities. The Sheriff’s Office calls for community vigilance to prevent others from becoming victims. Scams like this can undermine trust in law enforcement and create panic among citizens.
