Iowa Corn and Soybean Crops Progress Ahead of Schedule

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Iowa's corn crop is progressing well, with 18% of planted acres reaching the dough stage, according to the USDA's crop progress report. Soybean acres are also thriving, with 18% setting pods, several days ahead of the five-year average. Farmers have faced challenges, including standing water and excess moisture, yet they have planted more corn and soybeans than last year. Corn planting stands at 49%, which is three days ahead of 2024 but slightly behind the average. The Iowa Farm Bureau's latest food and farm index indicates that a majority of grocery shoppers are worried about food prices rising due to government regulations.

Despite the recent rainfall limiting fieldwork to just over three days, crop conditions remain favorable. The annual survey conducted by the Harris Poll highlights a growing trend of consumers seeking locally grown food. Overall, Iowa's agricultural sector demonstrates resilience amid weather challenges and changing consumer preferences.
