North Carolina man drowns in Colchuck Lake

A 30-year-old man from North Carolina drowned in Colchuck Lake on August 3. RiverCom received an emergency report shortly after 7 p. m. about a swimmer who had been underwater for five minutes. First responders quickly dispatched a helicopter team from the U.

S. Army Air Ambulance Detachment, which arrived about an hour and a half later. Despite efforts to revive him at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, the man did not survive. Ground responders assisted the man’s hiking group and a separate group that had performed CPR for over an hour. The incident emphasizes the risks associated with swimming in remote areas, particularly in challenging terrain.

Chelan County Search and Rescue coordinated the efforts to reach the location. This tragic event serves as a reminder for outdoor enthusiasts about safety precautions while swimming in natural bodies of water.
